Novi Syaftika is currently a Researcher at Research Centre for Industrial Process and Manufacturing Technology, National  Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN/Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional) 

Previously, she became a junior staff in BPPT for 4 years, with a background in biology. She found it challenging to keep up with the work that is more of the engineering field so she decided to take a master’s and doctoral course at Hiroshima University in 2013 and completed her study in 2018. She received support from Monbukagakusho (MEXT Japan) and Taoyaka Program (Hiroshima University) for the full scholarship. During the study, Ms. Syaftika learned about biomass conversion especially the utilization of agriculture waste (rice husk, rice straw, palm oil empty fruit bunch) to obtain raw material (sugars) for bioethanol production. After graduating, Ms. Syaftika back to working in BPPT and was involved in some engineering projects such as Biogas Plant from POME, Integrated Salt Industry, also some feasibility studies and assessments related to the bioenergy field. Her recent research topic is the utilization of macroalgae (seaweed) for bioenergy and other valuable products. Macroalgae are very attractive as resources are less explored compared to terrestrial plants
