Project Background
This project is a continuation of an ongoing initiative from two JASTIP grants i.e., the JASTIP-Net-2019 grant with the title of ‘Sustainable Production of High Quality of Bio-Oil from Catalytic Fast Pyrolysis in the ASEAN Region from Different Agriculture Wastes’ and JASTIP-Net-2021 grant with a title of ‘Upgrading of Bio-oil Targeting Sustainable Jet Fuel Range and Its Implementation Study in ASEAN Region’. This project brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers from four ASEAN member countries, namely Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia to study the usage of oil palm residues in various thermochemical conversion (hydrothermal and pyrolysis) for sustainable biofuel, bio-oil for transportation, heat and power generation. This study includes the following objectives: (a) a Techno-economics study on the thermochemical conversion of oil palm residues; and (b) Environmental, Societal, and Governmental (ESG) evaluation for biofuel, bio-oil for transportation, heat, and power generation in ASEAN region.
Aims and Objectives
Study the current status, challenges, and future policies covering the aspects of societal, and governmental (ESG) related to the thermochemical conversion of oil palm residues for biofuel, bio-oil for transportation, heat, and power generation in ASEAN regions. Also provides a brief analysis of how bio-fuel, bio-oil, heat, and power generation can contribute to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) target of the ASEAN countries.
Study Scope
Gap analysis in the regulation framework of palm oil biomass development in Indonesia, specifically using thermochemical conversion.
