Disaster Risk Financing Workshop
On July 9th, 2019, a collaborative workshop was convened at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) in Indonesia, with the active involvement of RDI (the organization), BNPB itself, and Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). The central theme of this workshop revolved around "Increasing Capacity and Synergy for Disaster Risk Insurance."
Diverse stakeholders from various organizations participated in this fruitful discussion, including representatives from BNPB, Bandung Institute of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, the Ministry of Finance's Fiscal Policy Agency (BKF), PT Maipark Reinsurance, the General Insurance Association of Indonesia (AAUI), the World Bank, and the Indonesian Red Cross Society (IFRC), among others.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Raditya Jati, BNPB's Director for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Dr. Saut Sagala. Throughout the course of the workshop, four insightful presentations were delivered. Hengki Eko Putra represented PT Maipark Reinsurance, Dr. Saut Sagala represented RDI, Prof. Indra Bastian represented Gadjah Mada University, and Irfa Ampri, Ak., C.A., Ph.D., who leads BKF's Center for Regional and Bilateral Policy, shared expertise from the Ministry of Finance.
The workshop culminated with a discussion session where both participants and speakers came to a consensus. They collectively acknowledged the significance of this event as a pivotal step toward establishing a more sustained and structured implementation of alternative disaster financing schemes.
