Asrul Sidiq is a lecturer at Department of Architecture and Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah), Banda Aceh, Indonesia. He holds a M.Sc in Regional and Rural Development Planning from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand (2013) and bachelor degree in Regional and City Planning from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bandung (2010). He is now pursuing higher education level as a PhD student at Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University since 2019 with Australia Awards Scholarship (AAS). His research interests are in regional and rural development planning, urban planning, community development, economic geography, and disaster management. Besides being a faculty member at the Faculty of Engineering, he is also part of several research institutions such as International Centre for Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS), Center for Social and Cultural Sciences (PPISB) Unsyiah, Center For The Arts of Syiah Kuala University and Resilience Development Initiative (RDI) Bandung. Asrul has some working experiences with several government organizations such as Aceh Public Works Department and Aceh Development Planning Agency. Currently, he serves as General Secretary of Indonesian Planner Association Aceh Chapter (IAP Aceh). Alongside his work and studies, Asrul has been engaged in various Indonesian civil society organisations focusing on youth development, civic engagement and environmental sustainability. He is also the co-founder of a social business called Kota Tanyoe (kotatanyoe.com)
