“Humans, Cities, and the Environment”: Seminar By Prof. John E. Fernandez

On the 16th of November 2018, RDI participated in a momentous seminar hosted by one of RDI's esteemed partners, Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD). This seminar marked a significant milestone as it represented the inaugural collaboration between UNPAD and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The event featured the first MIT lecture delivered by John E. Fernandez, the Director of the Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI) at MIT. ESI is an institution based at MIT that is committed to making substantial contributions toward addressing climate change and guiding society toward a more environmentally and socially sustainable future.

During the presentation, John E. Fernandez provided illuminating insights into how three pivotal elements play a central role in shaping contemporary and future human society. He elaborated comprehensively on how cities exert profound impacts on the environment throughout their life cycles. This seminar not only signified a groundbreaking collaboration but also offered valuable perspectives on the intricate interplay between society, the environment, and the urban landscape.
