I am an expert in disaster management with over a decade of experience in the field. In January 2020, I earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Macquarie University in Australia, alongside completing a Master of Research degree at the same institution. I hold the position of a senior research fellow at the Resilience Development Initiative (www.rdi.or.id) and serve as a board member for both the Indonesian Disaster Management Society (www.mpbi.info) and the Consortium for Disaster Education in Indonesia.
My recent accomplishments involve spearheading several key initiatives, including the creation of the ASEAN Joint Disaster Response Plan, the development of the ASEAN Regional Contingency Plans, the initiation of the ASEAN Safe Schools Initiative (ASSI), and the establishment of PREDIKT – an engaging toolkit designed to educate children and parents about disaster preparedness.
My consulting work has included collaborations with diverse clients such as the Government of Indonesia (including the Ministry of Education and Culture, National Disaster Management Agency, and Ministry of Social Affairs), the ASEAN Secretariat, the European Union, the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Centre), UN agencies (UN ESCAP, UNDP, UNICEF), IFRC, AADMER Partnership Group, Plan International, Oxfam International, Mercy Corps, and Save the Children. My most recent full-time role was with Plan International in the Southeast Asia region, where I founded the ASEAN Safe School Initiative.
I have been deployed to respond to various emergencies, including the Haiti earthquake (2010), Pakistan floods (2010), Nepal earthquake (2015), and the Central Sulawesi Earthquake and Tsunami (2018). During these deployments, my responsibilities included facilitating strategic planning, project design and management, monitoring and evaluation, and the development of disaster risk reduction (DRR) projects across Southeast Asia. My work encompassed a wide range of components, including disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, conflict sensitivity, emergency response, as well as long-term rehabilitation and recovery efforts.
My prior professional experiences also encompass managing projects focused on Child-Centered DRR, Climate Change Adaptation, and Safe Schools. Additionally, I have expertise in designing and implementing emergency response programs in various sectors, including Shelter, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Nutrition in Emergencies, Education, and Child Protection.
