Regional Workshop of Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR)

RDI member, (Saut Sagala) attended a regional workshop of Global Network of Civil Society Organisations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR) South East Asia, East Asia and Pacific held in Yogyakarta 4-6 December 2017. The workshop was attended by participants from Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Viet Nam, China, Japan, Fiji, Tonga, Thailand and UK.

As part of the workshop, there was a field trip arranged to Mt. Merapi volcano affected communities. The field visit provided lessons learned on disaster tourism, relocation and disaster preparedness. The way communities built back better from the disasters provided an example of resilient case. During the workshop, there has been discussions on the role of NGO as enabler, local champions, social capital, conflict resolution.
