The Geological Hazard Assessment and Mitigation Research Collaboration with PVMBG

Meeting with Pusat Vulkanologi dan Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG) has been held at PVMBG’s Office on Friday, 26 August 2022 attended by Mr. Hendra Gunawan (Head of PVMBG), Mr. Saut Sagala (ITB, RDI), Mr. Dicky Muslim (Unpad, RDI), Mr. Hengki Eko Putra (Maipark Reasuransi), Husnul Alberdi (RDI), Medhiansyah Putra (RDI), Wewin Wira (RDI), and PVMBG Team. The discussion was about follow-up to the roadmap and the potential collaboration to reduce barriers, and strengthen each other, even with existing limitations.

Based on PVMBG the problem is how the public can get the data easily, especially the crucial one is Agraria dan Tata Ruang (ATR). Therefore, the need to encourage use of these maps should be linked to other maps. The continuity and utilization of the map, especially in the context of spatial planning is also a concern of PVMBG. How the data can be friendly to the public, in the presentation and information system it is also a challenge for a one-stop data portal on the geological agency portal.

There is a lot of demand for spatial planning, especially Rencana Detail Tata Ruang (RDTR). The need for ground movement information in the context of regional spatial planning, analyzes and makes a hazard map certainly requires more detailed data. The plan is to develop a more detailed map through an “atlas” that will be compiled by PVMBG. Currently, efforts are being made with Badan Informasi Geospasial (BIG) so that the regions can make their own, more detailed maps as needed.

Through this discussion, explained each other's capacity and collaborated or helped each other, both from RDI and its network and from PVMBG to improve the quality of existing maps. In addition, input is needed regarding its use, and how to make it easier for the public to read and use it. These parties can be used to make maps, where PVMBG can take on the role of verifier. Finally, related to a concrete collaboration agenda, on 3-7 October BGS will come to Bandung. Of course, based on the existing history of collaboration between BGS and PVMBG this relationship can be very beneficial.
