Digital Biogas Cooperation: Kick-Off Meeting

In order to support ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy (SDGs 7) in Indonesia, Resilience Development Initiative (RDI), as the only representation of Asian Countries, has actively involved in the preparation phase of Digital Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) project, initiated and led by GIZ Germany. DiBiCoo project itself aims to trigger market uptake of biogas and biomethane projects through the initialisation of demo cases for the application of biogas/biomethane technologies in developing and emerging countries providing high biogas potential by utilizing the interconnected digital and non-digital support tools. This project will assist the mitigation of GHG emissions and increase the share of global renewable energy generation starting with the collaboration between exporting countries (European countries) and importing countries (Indonesia, Ghana, South Africa, Argentina, and Ethiopia).

The kick-off meeting of this Digital Biogas Cooperation (DiBiCoo) Project that was conducted on October 30-31, 2019 in Brussels, Belgium, had officially marked the beginning implementation phase of this project. This DiBiCoo kick-off meeting served as the first phase of project communication and coordination for the whole consortium member in order to gain common understanding and able to achieve the goal of DiBiCoo project. As the host of this kick-off meeting, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit/GIZ was able to engage the whole consortia coming from various countries, namely WIP Renewable Energies GmbH & Co. KG/WIP (Germany), Austrian Energy Agency/AEA (Austria), European Biogas Association/EBA (Belgium), Austrian Biogas Association/AKBOE (Austria), Resilience Development Initiative/RDI (Indonesia), Latvijas Lauksaimniecibas Universitate/LLU (Latvia), German Biogas Association/FVB (Germany, ICEADDIS IT Consultancy PLC/ICEADDIS (Ethiophia), Instituto Nacional de Technologia Agropecuaria/INTA (Argentina), Selectra CC (South Africa), and GreenCape (South Africa). RDI was represented by Saut Sagala and Teresa Arsanti.

The kick-off meeting was divided into several sessions, which were i) introduction of the project and its requirement, ii) consortia introduction, iii) respective 8 working packages (WP) presentations, iv) strategic implementation plans dan deliverables for the 33 months project timeline with the project officer of European Union in particular EUs Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA), v) working groups discussion, and vi) wrap-up and conclusion. RDI actively took part in the dynamic sessions of the meeting as RDI was honored to be the leader of WP3 regarding the stakeholder and importing market analysis to be the foundation of the market uptake and development interconnected digital and non-digital support tools. Through this meeting, the fruitful discussion between importing and exporting countries were facilitated and produced. Further, as the pledge of this project, DiBiCoo consortia will begin to implement the project and follow up the work with the regular meeting of steering committees in the selected countries.
