Dear RDI Collegues,

I am pleased to inform you that RDI’s Newsletter of 2019 (January-march) has been published.

Featured in this letter are several key RDI updates and activities:
1. Sumba Mini Grid Research Field Survey
RDI team, together with colleagues from University of Leeds, Dar Es Sa-laam Institute of Technology, Universitas Kristen Wira Wacana Sumba (Unkriswina), conducted a survey on renewable energy minigrid to gain insight into a range of energy uses, social-economic aspects, and analyz-ing the dynamics between stakeholders, private entities, and the role of communi-ties in maintaining existing RE facilities from the 21st to 30th of March, 2019.

2. GNDR Training for VFL Implementing Organizations
As part of the 2019 VFL Survey conducted by GNDR and its national partners in Indonesia, RDI was selected as an Implementing Organiza-tion and was tasked to conduct a survey in 4 villages located in Bandung city and West Bandung district to assess disaster preparedness of communities.

3. Field Visit of Urban Refugees Team
On the 8th and 9th of February 2019, the Urban Refugees team from RDI conducted a follow up interview with several refugees in Bogor and Jakarta. A previous visit was conducted the week prior to connect with some of the refugees, and this follow up visit was conducted to gather in-depth data regarding the theme: “The meaning of ‘Places’ for refugees identity”.

4. Bandung Mini Energy Symposium
On Friday, 22nd March 2019, RDI team organised a guest lecture/ workshop as part of the on-going project on ‘Creating Resilient Sustainable Minigrids through Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems’ with speakers from Dar Es Salaam Institute of Technology, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Widyatama University.

5. INDIeKNOW-DR — Exploring Intersections of Indigenous or Traditional
Knowledge On Wednesday, 6th February 2019, RDI in collaboration with Lancaster University and University of Padjadjaran (UNPAD) conducted a guest lecture and workshop titled “SEADCORE: Disaster Resilience and the Value of Local Tradition” at the Postgraduate Building in UN-PAD.

6. Voice of Members
Voice of members from:
a. Ichsan Hafiz Loeksmanto (RDI Outreach Officer) regarding his experience in representing RDI in AHA Centre’s ARMOR Launching event
b. Muhammad Anugrah Saputra (Intern, Urban Refugees Team) regarding his experience during the fieldwork for the urban refugees research
