On April 27, 2021, the RDI Team presented two research studies at the 29th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition. The first study, part of the DiBiCoo project funded by EU Horizon 2020, explored the “Indonesia Biogas Market: An Opportunity within the B100 Program.” It examined Indonesia’s role as a major palm oil producer and its efforts to promote renewable energy through the B100 program, identifying barriers like political prioritization of biofuels, environmental concerns, and enforcement issues.
The second research, presented by RDI researcher Esy Gracia, addressed “Policy Recommendations for Sustainable Biofuel Industry Development in Indonesia and Malaysia.” It highlighted common challenges, such as labor rights and environmental issues, involving multiple stakeholders like governments, farmers, and palm oil companies. The recommendations called for improved accountability, stricter enforcement, and support for smallholders, alongside infrastructure and technology enhancements, to promote sustainable biofuel industry development in both countries.
