The Making Displacement Safer (MDS) Final Workshop commenced in a hybrid conference format on 12 - 13 June 2023. It brought together key stakeholders and government institutions focused on urban community displacement. The first day of the workshop consisted of three sessions covering existing protection and displacement issues, policy provisions and government plans, and lessons learned from policy implementations. The discussions were led by representatives from various organizations namely Mr. Alfian from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Mr. Agus Sulistiyono from BNPB, and Danang Azhari  RDI Representative to discuss the existing protection and displacement issues in Indonesia. The second session invited Mr. Supriyadi from BAPPE- NAS and Dr. Yulius from the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small Medium Enterprises, to discuss the Policy Provision and Government Plan on the Displacement Issue.

The second workshop day continued on June 13, 2023, at Ashley Hotel Wahid Hasyim in Jakarta, with a simultaneous live stream online. The sessions were led by Dr. Nino Viartasiwi from RDI and featured several presentations. The first presentation was delivered by Danang Azhari, the Deputy Program Manager at

RDI, who discuss the implications of climate and environmental change on migration and displacement. Next, Mrs. Titi Moektijasih, the representative of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), delivered the topic Ensuring the Human Center Approach in Managing Climate-Induced Human Mobility. Lastly, the presentation delivered by Mr. Stefano Bresaola the representative of the IOM - UN Migration, brought the topic of integrating data for climate change, human mobility, and conflict nexus.

The MDS Final Workshop aimed to foster reflection, knowledge-sharing, and stakeholder collaboration. It provided an opportunity to share the lessons learned from the MDS Project and formulate strategies to address displacement in Indonesia. The interactive group discussions facilitated by RDI officers allowed for a fruitful dialogue between the presenters and participants. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, the workshop successfully enhanced understanding, promote effective policies, and ultimately contribute to creating safer and more resilient communities in the face of displacement challenges.
