Taking a Peek at Indonesia’s Energy Future

On September 5th, 2016, RDI joined forces with Widyatama University to organize a discussion panel centered on renewable energy in Indonesia. This event was a crucial component of the 8th Widyatama International Seminar on Sustainability (WISS) held in Bandung. The panel featured esteemed guest speakers: Prof. Jon Lovett from the University of Leeds and Prof. Joy Clancy from the University of Twente.

The event also included presentations from local experts. Dr. Saut Sagala from ITB shared his research on energy security in Palembang, while Mr. Endang Kuswandi from PT Rancang Bangun Nusantara discussed the implementation of wind technology in the Garut district. Ms. Elisabeth Rianawati from RDI presented research on the application of rural biogas in Boyolali and Lembang. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Dr. Mangapul Nababan and Dr. Yudha Prambudia.

The attendees represented a diverse mix of academicians, field practitioners, and local government staff. This diverse gathering fostered dynamic discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions. Prof. Jon Lovett presented the concept of the "Energy Garden," a novel approach designed to promote biofuel utilization in response to fossil fuel scarcity and high demand while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Prof. Joy Clancy, an expert in gender and energy, shared her research findings on women's roles in the energy sector and how gender equality can enhance energy management. Overall, the event provided valuable insights and contributed to meaningful discussions on renewable energy in Indonesia.
