Description:
Indonesia's natural and rich cultural heritage makes it one of the popular destinations for national and international tourists. The growth of Indonesia's tourism sector is able to strengthen several sectors such as: business, transportation, food and beverages, education, and health to provide employment opportunities in Indonesia.
Unfortunately, the movement of people around the world has been limited by COVID-19 pandemic. Efforts to prevent further spread also have an impact on the tourism economy, with an estimated loss of USD 1.5 billion (Mufti, 2020). When will tourism be up and running again or what kind of new tourism are questions that people have when entering a new normal era. At this time, the Ministry of Tourism in Indonesia is prioritising domestic tourists as a tourism recovery strategy, together with the #DiIndonesiaAja campaign for domestic tourists while enforcing the Cleanliness, Health and Safety (CHS) protocol (Ministry of Tourism and Economy Creative, 2020). They also continue to carry out the socialisation of strict implementation of the health protocols in order to restore public confidence and travel intention (Ministry of Tourism and Economy Creative, 2020).
Resilience Development Initiative (RDI) is committed to align its research efforts to address critical issues, specifically on the adverse impacts on the current pandemic outbreak, which covers tourism and cultural heritage as one of RDI's topics of research. Hence, the webinars on COVID-19 impact on the tourism sector will be held. The discussion of this webinar will cover both the health protocol and new innovations across industries and functional areas. The purpose of this webinar is to share knowledge regarding the impact of COVID-19 and the efforts that are being implemented in facing a transition to new normal. This webinar is also an ideal place to exchange ideas between the public, practitioners, academics, and other stakeholders in the field of tourism in Indonesia.
