Words into Action - Workshop by Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), GNDR, and Platform for Disaster Displacement (PPD)
On May 12th and 18th, 2021, the RDI team actively participated in an online workshop titled "Words into Action." This workshop was jointly organized by GNDR (Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), and the Platform for Disaster Displacement (PPD). The primary aim of this workshop was to pilot a new e-learning resource for disaster displacement and foster knowledge sharing on essential concepts and guidelines related to risk reduction. The event also delved into strategies for strengthening resilience, including community engagement, gender sensitivity, and social inclusion. Participants in this workshop included individuals involved in the Making Displacement Safer project from various regions across Asia and Africa.
The workshop was structured into two sessions. In the first session, the GNDR team delivered a presentation titled "Setting the Scene Session: Human Mobility in the Context of Disasters and Climate Change." Following this presentation, participants engaged in the e-learning module, which comprised six main sections. In each section, participants were tasked with providing a story and case study related to various disaster and displacement phases. RDI had the opportunity to share its insights during this process.
The second session of the workshop commenced with a presentation by Beatriz Felipe on the topic of "Gender and Displacement," followed by a Q&A session. Subsequently, all participants were divided into breakout rooms to engage in more in-depth discussions about their experiences during the e-learning process. Each breakout room was facilitated by a GNDR team member.
In the context of the Making Displacement Safer Project, RDI was able to share its perspectives based on its experience with disaster displacement in Garut. Additionally, RDI received valuable inputs and insights from the training, which will be integrated into its approach to ensure the sustainability of the Making Displacement Safer Project. These insights include the importance of Displaced Community Involvement, a Multi-Stakeholder Approach, and an Area-Based Approach.
